OPERATION KENYA FOR MR/MISS WESTLANDS 2015

DD (Darek Doll)
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Operation Kenya?
Operation Kenya will serve as a collaborative fundraising effort to cover transportation and lodging costs for DD and his accompanying staff for the 5-day trip. Not only will DD be delivering the address during the main event, but he’ll also be visiting the underprivileged communities to get a more personal encounter with the people and customs of Kenya. This will be the first international trip that DD has ever taken and this cause is more than deserving of the encouraging message he brings. All persons involved in the trip are equally responsible for raising their share of the needed funds prior to the finalization of travel plans, which is why community participation is highly needed and appreciated.

Why is this trip important?
Although it has many positive features, like any other large city, Nairobi has its fair share of problems and faces enormous challenges that range from congested roads and streets to crime and poverty in the neighboring slums of Kibera and Kangemi. The target audience for this event are the youth that come from these impoverished areas that are looking to escape through a life in the arts, such as fashion and music. Though the capital city is making great strides to stimulate a progressive form of pop culture, there still looms great concern for teenage drug use, pregnancies, crime, and HIV/AIDS partially due to idleness and lack of resources. Mr. and Miss Westlands competition will showcase 24 aspiring models competing for contracts with Fashionprenuer, a rising online magazine and 80,000/- ($800 USD). The New York film crew Team Colours will be documenting this experience from beginning to end in hopes to get placement on Magic Johnson’s new television network, Aspire TV, which offers programming specifically for the uplift and education of the Black community. Not only will be teaching and learning first hand, but we’ll also be capturing the moments to later share them with the world.

Why Derek Doll?
Over the past few years, Prince Derek has worked tirelessly to build a recognizable brand as an entertainer, entrepreneur, and activist. In the process he’s managed to establish a network of young visionaries and leaders that are passionate not only about their own work, but also the work of others who have dedicated their lives to making this world a better place. During the two-year span of Alonzo’s UglyTruth on BlogTalkRadio, he was able to break into international markets including the United Kingdom, South Africa, and even Indonesia.Through the powerful medium of social media, his fans overseas have been able to follow his progress and the overall message behind his brand has translated into one of inspiration. In April, he was welcomed on to the project as a consultant and was later extended an invitation to speak before an estimated crowd of 750-1,000 youth about acknowledging their potential, overcoming obstacles, and remaining focused on the achievement of their dreams. To be included in a historical event such as this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that may never come again.

How much will it all cost?
This is a non-profit speaking engagement where only local transportation and meals will be covered by the hosts, so there remains a need for travel and lodging expenses. Due to security concerns, he will be traveling with an armed guard and a New York film crew of three (3) has been commissioned to document the experience. He will also be accompanied by a personal staff of four (4) to assist with production management.
Cost Breakdown:
International Airfare for 11 @ $900 est. = $9,900*
Three (3) Hotel Rooms @ La Maison Royale @ $130/night for 5 nights = $1,950
Total Goal = $11,850
*Each traveler is responsible for covering 50% towards their airfare and 100% of all other taxes, fees, and associated costs.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Earlier this year I launched The Renaissance Project™ as an attempt to establish a cooperative national network of young minority leaders from various industries, so that we all could be of greater service to our respective communities. Due to the power of social media, our efforts have gained international interest and I’m proud to announce that I have been selected to serve as the keynote speaker at the Mr. and Miss Westlands 2015 competition in Nairobi this December.

This event was organized by the Zion Family Nissisi Chapter Outreach Program in conjunction with Fashionpreneur Kenya  to create an outlet for the youth living in slum villages who have interests in pursuing a career in the performing arts. Granted, there are children in the United States that are just as disadvantaged and discouraged as those I’ll be speaking to in Nairobi, and I’m already working with community leaders in my area to create other programs like this that will keep our kids off of the streets and prepare them for success— but I realized that all children of the world are of equal value and deserve a fair chance at a fruitful, productive life.

I want to do my part to make sure that the next generation of creative artists are encouraged to live life in full color and I believe that this platform will help me and my team do just that.

Your donations will help us achieve our goal of raising $12K towards travel and lodging, in return we’re offering some amazing gifts like the #OperationKenya t-shirts, mugs, appreciation plaques, and production credit for the documentary.  It is my sincerest hope that this project will serve as a spark that lights a wildfire in not just the youth of Nairobi, but for all those participating and those who will view the finished product. Again, I never thought in a million years that I would have an opportunity like this, and taking on a project of this magnitude is as overwhelmingly amazing as it is terrifying. I don’t want to let anyone down or fail on my commitment to appear, so it is with great humility that we seek your financial aid.
